Understanding Mini Cattle Sizes

Because mature sizes vary naturally, we classify our cattle using standard industry hip-height measurements at maturity:

  • Micro-Miniatures: Under 36 inches at the hip (Average mature weight: 400–500 lbs)
  • Miniatures: Between 36 and 42 inches at the hip
  • Mid-Sized Miniatures: Between 42 and 48 inches at the hip

Socialization & Temperament

Our calves are explicitly raised to be exceptional companions. They are completely integrated into our bustling ranch life, spending their days interacting with our children, neighborhood kids, and a diverse group of farm friends—including horses, donkeys, dwarf goats, chickens, German Shepherds, Border Collies, and our main cattle herd. Because of this early, intensive socialization, they are incredibly gentle, confident, and friendlier than standard livestock.

Dietary & Land Requirements

Miniature Highlands have an undeniable allure for small-scale farmers and homesteaders due to their compact size, extreme hardiness, and undeniable charm. They are highly adaptable and can be easily and happily managed on a 0.5-acre pasture (or smaller, if supplemented with quality feed).

  • Their Diet Consists Of: Quality pasture grass, hay, natural browse (leaves, shrubs, and low-hanging branches), and specialized cattle grain, barley, wheat, or corn silage when extra conditioning is needed.

A Note on Responsible Ownership: While miniature cattle make wonderful production animals and lifelong companions, owning and breeding them comes with unique responsibilities. We highly encourage all prospective owners to fully research the housing, containment, and management complexities of miniature livestock before bringing a calf home. We are always here to answer your questions and guide you!
